Fantasy is such a hot topic with middle schoolers! I can imagine that they can get extremely enthused about this reading, especially those that seem to be rather on the "fringe" of the average middle school student. Your document to support student learning looks incredibly helpful.

I enjoyed your presentation immensely. I liked how you dealt with the challenge of incorporating both your language arts and literature sections. It seems to me that you have covered all of the gaps that might exist as a result of having the students working on two different sets of curriculum. It seems as though you have used your blog effectively, and I hope that your students utilize it as you have planned. Overall, I think the strengths of this unit lie mainly in your thorough covering of all of your vocabulary and tasks as well as clear and systematic scope and sequence of activities in the unit.

I really liked the detail of your rubric. Including the literary elements in the rubric really help students to focus on what you have identified as important. I also liked the way you set up your blog by the week. I think your students will really enjoy blogging since that is really the "in" thing to be doing. What a great way to get your students motivated!

My feedback is...Dawn, I really appreciated the scaffolding document in your unit plan. I think it is a good aid without limiting the students' creativity. I like that you provide many options for your students instead of demanding that every student read the same book.
